Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel

The hotel felt historic in a cool way and was well maintained. Like all hotels inside Yellowstone, it lacks many of the more common features you expect like TV, A/C, etc. However it has a good common room for families to gather and spend down time playing games and unplug.

We spent a week in yellowstone and stayed 1 night at each location other than Grant Village. Mammoth Hotel was probably our favorite. Hotel was nice, our room was nice and roomy, and it wasn't as busy as many other locations in the park. No it's not as nice as upscale hotels outside the park, and like everywhere in yellowstone there is no AC, but for a national park lodging this place was great. And sleeping with the windows open it was plenty cool (we went in July). This was also the only hotel in the park where the wifi actually worked (we stayed here our 1st night of the trip and the working internet access definitely spoiled us). The hot springs themselves are neat, but you can see them in a couple of hours, and there's not as much to see at this location as many of the others in the park. 1 short day in this area was definitely enough (we moved from here to Roosevelt Lodge, which is a totally different area of the park, even though it often gets lumped into "the northern area" with Mammoth). We didn't get to see large elk gatherings in the parking lot as others have mentioned, but we did see an elk family of 4 just cruising through the area one night. And a fox walking right down main street. We ate in the restaurant and it was perfect. Bison burgers were excellent.

Lovely hotel with views of the mammoth hot springs. It was a delightful adventure into the past while incorporating modern amenities. I would highly recommend this hotel.
