We arrived yesterday after booking this place online and they didn't honour our booking.
The guy there didn't seem to care and blamed his "manager" before informing us that everywhere in town was fully booked because of the reunification celebrations. He didn't even offer us a taxi or a drink - just pointed us in the direction of the town centre and half heartedly apologised saying that this had been happening all day i.e people showing up after booking online and not getting a room.
We booked on Hostelworld the previous day and received a confirmation email. We have been travelling for months and this has never happened before with a booking.
As a result we spent hours trying to find a place, both online and dropping in to the hotels and home stays we passed. Everywhere was out of our budget or fully booked, We eventually found a place, that had one room, for one night, it was overpriced, but we had to take it.
However, we wanted to stay in Hoi An for three days and had booked for three days, so we had to start our search for another place at 8AM this morning. After searching in the morning sun for two hours we couldn't find a room, we almost gave up and booked a flight to Ho Chi Minh for $100 per person, because all the buses and trains were booked out. We were devastated by the thought of leaving Hoi An after one day without seeing anything. Before we made a decision we went for one last search around the town and we were so lucky to find a room for $15.
So as a result of this home stay not honouring our confirmed online booking, we wasted a full day in Hoi An frantically searching for accommodation on foot and online. The worst thing is the accommodation remained available online for the three nights of our booking after our failed visit - and many others we assume. A terrible experience.
