Faifoo Boutique Hotel

False Advertising. The hotel does not look anything like the photos, it probably did 20 years ago but is now very run down and needs major work done inside and outside. The so called bar and dining area upstairs is totally over grown and hasnt been useable for many years. Nice friendly staff and nice breakfast. But would not stay here again, in its current state it is worth $20 a night at most, very disappointed as photos looked very very good. Gerry and Meg Brown, New Zealand

This is a budget hotel. If you're a back-packer having a break from hostel living you'll love it, but if you're used to something a little more flash you probably wont. Some reviewers have said it's close to the airport, but there are many others as close or closer, but I assume they mean a budget hotel close to the airport. You'd probably only stay here for that reason or perhaps as some have suggested to get away from the tourist area, but the area is still busy. I was here because I had business in the area. The room I was in was quite spacious and clean, but had no opening window, actually had no window except a square of glass bricks you couldn't see through, but it did let the light in during the day. I wouldn't say the hotel is worn out as much as dated. The only staff member I saw apart from someone who brought breakfast was the receptionist and she was quite pleasant. Breakfast is simple, a la carte from a limited choice of items, but still quite sufficient to satisfy and the dining area is at the entrance in a quite pleasant garden setting. Someone said food late at night was a problem, I'm not sure how late they mean, but it does surprise me. I ate once at Juliet's next door and it was good. Within about 200m there are lots of eating places. I'd recommend the the frozen yoghurt place next door, called Rainbow (read my review)

We stayed here to be close to the airport since we didn't have much time between flights. The hotel grounds is beautiful, and the old furnishings of the room are tired but lovely. The staff is friendly and helpful. The room has a bed. However, the bathroom was flooded and the staff didn't even mop it up on our request but simply put a towel on the floor which got soaked straight away. The shower was broken, leaked and so old and manky you couldn't close the door. The towels were torn. The AC doesn't work. Oh yes, it doesn't have a bar but the staff referred us next door, and the food and service there I won't even get into. Nothing else in the area if you arrive late. We ended up taking a taxi downtown just to get a meal. I can't really recommend this hotel as the main thing you need between flights is food, a clean room and a functioning bathroom. Faifoo couldn't provide either.
