After booking and paying in full just two days before arriving at this hotel, upon check-in I was advised "I don't have a room available" and that I would be "upgraded" for the first night and have to change rooms the next day.
Not a good start.
And from there it got worse on the first night... The wifi did not connect to the internet (resolved by the smartest guy in the building - the bellboy - connecting me to the network of the hotel next door).
There was no hot water in the room - which also had a wet bathroom (which should be disclosed on booking websites!) IE: to those not familiar with Asia - the shower was over the toilet so once you've showered everything is wet for hours afterwards.
The water glass had to be washed before use - and the bathroom handbasin drainage was semi-blocked...
The next day the same staff member tried to move me to a room BENEATH the standard I had prepaid for with no window at all and very tiny.
However, I ended up in a room with a shower above a bath (but no shower curtain; nevertheless an improvement), working wifi and quiet.
Beware of booking a street-facing room on Saturday nights as the supposed 5-star hotel directly across the street has an outdoor pool party running from around midday to 9pm with loud disco music and lots of screaming throughout!!!. The second room was acceptable (if not particularly clean) but the first night experience, combined with the rude and unhelpful response from the clueless young receptionist on the first night, will ensure I never stay there again and I recommend others avoid it. There are many better hotels in this price bracket with good service.
Finally, perhaps unsurprisingly in this price bracket, the photos on the booking website bore little resemblance to the room I got, but they were a great showcase of someone's superb Photoshopping skills!
