Golden Halong

The hotel is good, the location suits the needs.

Last minute stay arranged when overnight junk boat trip cancelled due to a storm. The Hotel presents its self as a 4* (advertising on the plaque outside and embossed on the old rough towels) There is open WiFi on every floor of this hotel, however once connected it would disconnect every 2-3 minutes and struggle to reconnect. The bedside console contained switches to turn the room lights on and off. These switches were very stiff and difficult to press. There were no sockets for charging phones etc. In my search behind the bedside console I found a bunch of loose wires. And the socket used for the TV would not take the international adapter. Buffet breakfast I found a black hair baked into my bread roll. Mediocre stay. Lobby is all show with no substance. Very dated. I would not stay here again.

This was booked at the last minute as our overnight stay on a boat in Halong Bay was cancelled due to impending bad weather. Anyway it was a generally comfortable hotel, spacious room, good wifi, good aircon. The staff at reception were friendly and spike quite good English. We went out to a restaurant for dinner but had breakfast at the hotel; there was a wide choice of food and decent coffee. Halong is a big holiday town and we didn't see much of it but I walked some nearby streets and fossicked in a supermarket where I bought some reasonably priced local coffee. We had a full day out on Haling Bay, it was wonderful, such lovely scenery! We were served a very nice lunch on board and later got to go to a little beach for a swim, so a good day in all.
