The name of Guilin was recorded in Chinese history in 214 BC when Qin Shihuang ordered the digging of the Lingqua Canal, connecting the route for troops to send supplies from the central region to invade southern China. Guilin has a natural limestone layer that continues uninterrupted. Therefore, Guilin has many strangely shaped mountains and beautiful caves.
