Costa Rica Hotel

“A stay that went from expectation to absolute stress in a matter of hours.” We are three women and our experience at Hotel Costa Rica during our stay in Buenos Aires (from 02/13 to 02/16, which finally ended up being only one night) was extremely negative. Our reservation had been made well in advance, in May 2025 for February 2026, just to ensure accommodation on a high demand date. We never imagined that, even having planned the trip so many months in advance, we would end up with no solution from the hotel. When we arrived around 10am we were given the room. However, as soon as we entered, the bathroom began to lose water through the base of the toilet. We immediately notified reception; the owner, Mr. Frances, was present and at first denied that this could be happening. They told us that, if we wanted, we could retire and they would refund our nights. It was Carnival weekend, with the city completely full and the accommodation practically sold out, so getting another option at that time was almost impossible. We asked them to try to fix it. After several back and forth, they placed silicone at the base of the toilet and we retreated to the recital. On returning at night, there was water under the toilet again. The next morning the situation worsened: the hallway was flooded, there was a strong smell of sewage and the pipes were clearly heard blocked. Later we were informed that the mains were clogged and that the entire hotel had drawbacks: out-of-service bathrooms and flooded ground floor areas. In the absence of a concrete solution and after so many insistences, we voluntarily decided to check-out on Saturday, indicating that we would try to return by bus, even missing our scheduled flight on Monday, as we had nowhere to stay. We tried to get collective tickets for the same day, but it was not possible; there was only availability for Sunday. In the meantime, we consulted the owner if we could stay in the lobby until our trip. He told us yes. I also asked him if, even if the bathroom was in poor condition, we could use the room again only to sleep and spend the night. The answer was negative. Only after this situation, and after repeated requests, did we get the contact of a colleague who rented rooms in a private house. The proposal was for USD 130 per room per night, offering us two rooms for three people, supposedly “by way of favor”. Finally, without a real solution from the hotel, we had to spend more than 17 hours in Aeroparque, waiting for our flight, in a situation of totally avoidable physical and emotional exhaustion if there had been responsibility and empathy. I deeply regret this experience. The lack of hospitality and commitment to a problem that was clearly not caused by us was very disappointing. The only alternative offered from the start was to retreat and pay us back for unused nights, without contemplating the situation in which we were staying as guests in a collapsed city. In addition, the room is expensive for the services provided. The hotel is noisy (you hear all the sounds of the atmosphere), there is no bidet, they request to leave the key when leaving and you frequently enter the room, which generates a feeling of lack of privacy. Breakfast is very simple. On the positive side, the location is very good and the area is quiet. My grade is 0. This experience turned our trip into an episode of distress, stress and uncertainty that I do not wish on any guest.

Charming place. Good location to Palermo. Main floor common spaces are cozy and inviting. Our room was clean, large bathroom. Layout was a little unconventional...It looks like two buildings have been joined, but very nice.
