One of different experience , great in cleanliness, friendly staff

Surreal experience. If you love decaying chintz and tacky sixties ornaments, this place is for you. The stench of the old carpets competed with the eye watering amount of carpet freshener used to hide the smell. I advise the managers renovate the property! It is revolting on many levels. The shared kitchen is awful and best avoided. Look it may have been good once - but it certainly is not good now!

An old hotel that is well positioned as a base to explore the Hunter Valley. The renovated bathrooms are a delight. While the beds are clean and comfy, the room furniture is old. The tv has the basics, but no Chromecast. There is a small fridge and a tea/coffee station but no microwave. A self-service breakfast is available in a small shared kitchen. Everything is provided freshly each day. One needs to compete with others for work and stove space, so choosing an off-peak time is important. Everyone is expected to clean up after their use - something not everyone did diligently. There are several stairs to traverse for both the front entrance and car park access. Not easy if you have heavy luggage. The staff are friendly and helpful. For us, spending another $70 a night to upgrade is probably our more likely move when we next visit the magnificent Hunter.
