Country Comfort Coffs Harbour

Where to start.....worst experience and place we have ever stayed, myself and family were at the end of our 2 week road trip where we had stayed at many other great places, on the drive to this hotel we were called by a hotel staff member to say that the family apartment I had booked months ago was no longer available and would i accept a room with a queen bed and x2 single beds - they also asked how many people were travelling (should this not be on the booking?) when we arrived we were actually provided with an air bnb style acc not even located in the hotel but around the back/side, we arrived at around 6pm and upon inspection of the room we were appalled - mould on the bathroom ceiling and walls (my son could not shower), rusty oven elements so this was unusable along with plenty of other damage - walls and doors not painted, holes (see photos) it had clearly been a rental prior. We then went out to get food and the neighbouring rooms guests were out and about and were clearly living there and not very desirable - my partner was worried about our brand new car so actually stayed in the lounge awake all night (it was too late for us to find alternative acc) but he did go and speak to reception about the situation who advised "no the guests do not live there and they are ok" however I spoke to a staff member the next morning who told us that they were actually druggies and you could not pay the staff member to ever stay there (we left as soon as we could after cancelling the 2nd night that we were supposed to stay which very much tainted the end of our trip and stay in coffs harbour - we did not even have our planned day at the big banana, we did however go to the gift shop who advised us that they have had nothing but break ins and that they are emergency accommodation guests staying and the cops will not do anything about it .) the reception staff member the next morning refunded the night we were no longer staying but would not refund the night where we stayed "i would not say this as we were awake most of the night both scared and noise from the highway" I have since contacted the manager and they are refusing to refund the first night even though the acc was not clean, safe or fit for guests, they offered 20% off our next stay (over our dead body would we ever be back) very disappointing as its a great location but really lets the area down - we will be taking this further with the NSW fair trading act - DO NOT STAY HERE

If I could give zero stars, I would. Do not stay at this hotel under any circumstances. The condition of this property is not only unacceptable — it is a serious health hazard. The owners and management are nothing short of slimy scam artists who appear more interested in taking advantage of desperate travellers needing last-minute accommodation than providing a safe or hygienic place to stay. We arrived late at night and immediately noticed a strong musty odour upon entering the room. It quickly became apparent why: the walls were covered in extensive black mould, unlike anything we have ever encountered in accommodation before. We contacted reception straight away and requested a different room, only to be told the hotel was fully booked. Staff acknowledged the severity of the issue and advised us to stay the night, assuring us that a full refund would be provided in the morning. With no alternative accommodation available at that hour, we had little choice. As we inspected the room further, the extent of the filth became even more disturbing. There were hairs throughout the room and on the bedding, no mattress protector, previous guests’ clothing left under the bed, toothpaste residue above the sink, a dirty toilet, mould and grime in the shower, and thick dust coating the fan and walls. We also found cockroaches in the room, and after simply walking barefoot on the floor, the bottoms of our feet were completely black from dirt and grime. The room was clearly not cleaned to even the most basic standard. The experience was appalling. We are not overly demanding travellers — we regularly camp and are accustomed to basic conditions — but this room was beyond unacceptable. It should never have been made available to paying guests. After reading other reviews, it is obvious this is not an isolated incident, which raises serious concerns about how this business continues to operate. The following morning, when we attempted to collect the refund we had been promised, management refused to honour it. Their conduct was dishonest, manipulative, and entirely unprofessional, which only reinforced our impression that this business operates with little regard for its guests. We will be pursuing this matter further with the appropriate authorities.

Extremely disappointed. Our booking was cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice despite being made well in advance. We had coordinated this stay with another family, so the last-minute cancellation caused significant inconvenience and a very stressful start to our trip trying to find alternative accommodation. A full refund was offered, but that doesn’t make up for the disruption. Reliability is incredibly important when travelling, and unfortunately this experience fell well short.
