Hoey Moey Backpackers

First of all, we'd like to thank Frank for his help and advice, as well as the rest of the team! The positive points about this hotel: • Close to the beach! • Cheap compared to other places (you wonder why). • Everything is nearby (shopping centre within a 10–15 minute walk). • The pizzas are really good! The NEGATIVE points: • For backpackers staying next to the bar/restaurant, it's just awful. The rooms are poorly insulated, they shake when there are live music events (almost every night), and you can hear everything! Bring your earplugs!! • The kitchen... OMG. Most people are DIRTY. They never clean up after themselves and leave everything in a mess. There is no respect for others. There isn't even an oven, and there aren't enough decent frying pans for the people living there. There's only one small room with a single table for four people, which is ridiculous considering how many people stay here. Please provide more tables so people have somewhere to eat or work! • The vacuuming is done in the nicer short-stay rooms, but not in the backpacker rooms? Don't backpackers deserve to have the floors vacuumed and mopped too? We pay rent as well. • The parking spaces were blocked off for an "event" that lasted several days! For people living here, that's very disrespectful. We don't even have allocated parking spaces. • The Wi-Fi is practically non-existent and useless. Make sure you have plenty of mobile data! • They don't provide us with towels...

We stayed for a week as our van had broken down. Frank and all of his staff were amazing - so helpful and accommodating even when we weren’t sure how long we were going to be staying. Clean, friendly & great amenities. The menu in the restaurant is huge, varied and great value. The bar is lots of fun and always has some live music or other event on. Always busy with atmosphere. Our room was quiet and private and clean. Great shower and small kitchenette. Right on the beach and only a 30 minute walk to the jetty area of Coffs Harbour with cafes bars and restaurants. We are so grateful and would definitely recommend a stay here!

Best hostel in Auz in a perfect location! 10 second walk to the beach and lots of shops/cafes/restaurants a short 15 min walk away. If you are looking for retail or hospitality jobs there are plenty in the area. The cleaners do an amazing job and are friendly. Frank who runs the place is the most helpful hostel owner you will ever meet! From before we arrived he was so helpful over email and made our whole stay relaxing and enjoyable. He also gave us some advice for finding regional work before/during our stay. You also get a discount for weekly bookings and some vouchers for discounted pizza/free beer & pool games over in the pub. We loved the hostel & Coffs so much that we ended up staying a total of almost 6 months! The guests are generally really friendly and we made some lifelong friends. Thanks for everything Hoey Moey!
