Crowne Plaza Sydney Macquarie Park By IHG

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after staying at Crowne Plaza Sydney Macquarie Park, I felt compelled to share my experience because it was genuinely one of the most disappointing hotel stays I’ve had. For a hotel carrying the Crowne Plaza name, the room and overall experience fell well below expectations. The first issue was the entertainment. The TV offered no standard channels or streaming apps—only Chromecast. Normally this wouldn’t be a huge issue, except the hotel’s public Wi-Fi was so slow that Chromecast was virtually unusable. I ended up having to disconnect from the hotel Wi-Fi and watch shows on my iPad using my own mobile data instead. When I mentioned this to reception, the response was simply, “Sorry, that’s all we have.” Before I could continue the conversation, another guest pushed in front of me and staff made no effort to manage the situation. The air conditioning was another major disappointment. It looked extremely dated, had no remote, and the wall controller appeared to be in poor condition. More importantly, it simply didn’t work properly. It constantly fluctuated between blowing hot air and then cold air, making both nights very uncomfortable despite setting the temperature to 16°C. Room service was equally disappointing. I ordered a pizza on the first night, and it honestly reminded me of a microwaved supermarket pizza that cost six times the price. On the second night I ordered through Uber Eats instead, paid less, and received far better quality food. Breakfast was also below standard. Sauce bottles were empty, some of the hot food appeared undercooked, and replenishment was slow. Staff seemed overwhelmed, resulting in long delays. The room itself also felt tired. Lighting was surprisingly poor, with only a handful of lamps, forcing me to open the curtains during the early morning just to see properly. The bathroom was incredibly cramped—I found it difficult to close the door while using the facilities or entering the shower, and I can only imagine how uncomfortable it would be for larger guests. Overall, I left feeling that the price paid simply didn’t match the quality of the accommodation or service provided. Between the poor internet, outdated air conditioning, disappointing food, cramped bathroom, lack of lighting and underwhelming customer service, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had despite staying in many hotels over the years. The attached photos speak for themselves. Crowne Plaza is a brand I generally associate with quality, which made this experience even more disappointing. This property is overdue for some investment in its rooms, amenities and customer service. I genuinely felt ripped off and wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

charge me twice but insisted they haven't when I have provided bank info showing they have.

Stayed on a business trip, and the location was convenient—just a short walk from Macquarie Park Station and close to many offices, making it easy to get to work. I enjoyed the morning walks, which were a refreshing way to start the day. The hotel itself is quite old and would benefit from an overhaul, especially in the bathrooms, where I noticed leaking taps. The room was spacious, but I was disappointed that two beds had been joined to create a king bed. The uneven surface made it uncomfortable and disrupted my sleep. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. However, I was disappointed that check-out was fixed at 11:00 am, with no flexibility to extend—even as a premium frequent traveller. Breakfast offered a good variety of options, though the timing was restrictive if you prefer a later start to the day. Overall, it was a convenient stay for business purposes, but the property would be much improved with better maintenance and more guest-friendly policies.
