Breakfree Imperial Surf

The view made up for a tired apartment. The carpet was old and worn, the crockery was cheap and old. The bed was comfy and the shower pressure good. The one operating lift was so slow- in peak times like check out, make sure you allow enough time!

We were in a fully refurbished Unit with ocean views. The kitchen was fully equipped, great lounge and dining area, and the bedrooms were a great size with plenty of wardrobe space. The location is very close to all restaurants and shops. Likewise the light rail (G:Link) is just a stone’s throw away. One point I would mention, is their website shows the height of the underground car park is 1.89 m. However, I have a large 4WD vehicle which is over 2m in height and I can comfortably drive it into the car park.

Apparently many of these apartments are privately owned which means standards vary tremendously. Unfortunately the one we stayed in needed a lot of work to bring it up to a reasonable standard. Carpets were grubby. Light fittings were rusty and the ceiling fan wobbled alarmingly. One of the bathroom drawers had no bottom panel. Cleanliness was also substandard. There was a half-eaten energy bar in one bedroom. We had to wash the dirty mugs before we could have a cup of tea. Then the Wi-Fi didn't work. Tried to call Reception but the phone also didn't work. We were told the Wi-Fi problem had been reported earlier but it couldn't be fixed until the next day. In fact it was never fixed, We were given a code for another apartment's Wi-Fi after complaining again on the second day. Why we weren't given this earlier I don't know, but it appeared that the only way to get any service from Reception was to keep complaining. This was very frustrating. The view from the apartment was spectacular and we were lucky enough to see several whales. The location was an easy walk to the centre of the resort and close to restaurants. It was good to have cooking and washing facilities and we appreciated each room having its own bathroom. I've been very envious of some people who wrote reviews of different apartments which were evidently much nicer. If you're lucky to get a well-maintained apartment where everything works and is cleaned, this would be a great place to stay. Unfortunately it appears to be pot luck which apartment you're allocated and in the event of problems Reception don't seem to be able to take action. Nor do they communicate to keep people informed, which just makes things worse.
