Collingrove Homestead

I retired a year ago after working for the same company for 40 years and they kindly gave me a gift of a 2 night stay with a winery tour to this place. Unfortunatley due to a health issue I had to delay taking up this offer. I contacted them in September 2018 advising of this issue and was told that it would not be a problem and they would hold the booking for when we were ready and I had recovered from surgery. In Feburary 2019 I rang them to confirm a date and found that the phone had been disconnected and their web page was down so I sent them and email and got nothing back.I have family near this property and asked them to have a look and they told me it looked like it had closed.Rang the local tourist centre in the Barossa and they had no idea and offered me other places to stay. Luckily we were still able to do the wine tour so we booked our own accommodation and had a great time. Would have liked to stay at this place but it was not to be.I would be interested to know if anybody else has had the same problem and if anyone could confim that the property is operating or closed

We booked in December through booking.com and arrived at the gates to Collingrove Homestead but the gates were locked and the phone disconnected. We were really disappointed and concerned that we had arrived from Sydney and now had nowhere to stay. Fortunately we were able to secure a booking for 3 nights at the lovely Novotel at Rowland Flat, near Tanunda.

We first stayed here in 2005 and the Homestead and accommodation has certainly changed in this time. On our first visit we were greeted by the then hosts, this time we had to phone the hosts as there was no one at the house (even though they had tried to contact us via text message it hadn't reached us). First visit we were offered a welcoming drink and we sat in the house in one of the lounges and chatted to the hosts, BUT not this time, we were left to it as they disappeared. These hosts no longer live on site and I think for us that made a huge difference. The guest lounge has NO air conditioning and smells of old wood fires, plus the TV doesn't work. To access this you have to go outside so if it's raining it's really not very convenient. There are no tea or coffee making facilities in your room, so you either need to get showered and dressed in the morning to go and make yourself a hot drink or you need to dash in your pj's across the yard to make your morning drink. Not ideal! The cooked breakfast is nice but the hosts arrive at 8.00am and you can then have breakfast at 8.30am or around that time. The bed was super comfy and clean, the air con unit really wasn't efficient in 40 degree heat and was really noisy - we found sitting outside the 'communal lounge' was better than sitting inside of an evening, despite the mosquitoes. The trees are in need of trimming and the driveway needs some attention. Tallhe outside generally needs some maintenance.
