Our one night stay in the expansive Prospect Suite (basically the whole top level - bedroom, dressing room, two bathrooms, landing and private sitting room was ‘JUST’ enough room!!!!😍) was bliss for a birthday treat. It felt like being back in England again. From the initial welcome drink in the lovely reception room on arrival we fell properly into the ‘olde worldly’ swing!  Even at a time of year less ‘successful’ for gardens, it was still a very beautiful property to explore.   The high quality history booklet they provide is well worth a study, the wine tasting at Pooley is well worth partaking in, the leatherwood honey shortbreads are well worth a nibble for afternoon tea and the ‘toastie’ they can cook up for you in addition to the continental breakfast is WELL worth agreeing to - it actually outshone dinner in the restaurant!! It was gorgeous and really topped off our breakfast (rugged up!) sitting in the garden. We had mixed thoughts on dinner but the two lovely dishes were the venison and the duck. Those two were excellent, although super pricy. On the whole, it was a special experience. So hating to end on a bad note but needing to point it out - beware: the wine list is absurdly overpriced. Unfortunately the markups really galled us. We purchased a bottle of Bellebonne bubbles to enjoy in the room pre-dinner and we nearly died when we saw online how much that bottle would have cost compared to the 3.5x markup we paid. Crazy! We’d suggest replacing the outdoor furniture in the courtyard - much of it is cracking up.   Finally, it is worth mentioning the interaction by email leading up to the visit was clumsy. I had quite a few questions a fair way in advance for planning purposes about inclusions and timings as we had such a tight trip, yet they seemed to want to wait until they issued the pre arrival email later, on their own time, to deal with specifics. Ultimately I got the answers I needed and the wine tasting booked in at the time we needed, but then a couple of days out we were still emailed and asked all the same questions again! Then on arrival they didn’t have the dinner time slot right that had been agreed in the emails anyway. For an ‘exclusive’ experience staying in that suite, improved communications would have been appreciated and provided more confidence.

Very intimate stay in wonderful surroundings. Staff extremely helpful including arranging a complimentary wine tasting at adjacent winery. Dinner was excellent with good choice and continental breakfast just what we wanted. Very good overall.
