This was our first visit to Perth, and unfortunately our experience at Mercure Perth on Hay left us disappointed. We arrived around 11am to register and leave our luggage. We understood that check-in was at 2pm, but when our room was eventually ready, our luggage was not brought up. We later had to collect the bags ourselves and bring them to our room. When we returned after 7pm, we asked about parking and were told we had to check in first before parking downstairs. The check-in experience itself felt very rushed and unwelcoming. We were addressed by our middle name and asked for identification in a manner we felt was not particularly professional. We were told the breakfast hours and that breakfast was not included and could be purchased, but no price was provided. We also received no proper information about Wi-Fi, the swimming pool or other hotel facilities. Later, while it was raining, we asked reception for an umbrella and were told that all the umbrellas had been given out. We understand that supplies can be limited, but there was no apparent effort to check for another solution. The most disappointing interaction was when we asked if there was a freezer because we had purchased some meat. After asking what it was for, the staff member responded, “No way.” We felt that there were much more professional and respectful ways to explain any hotel policy. What made us particularly uncomfortable was seeing the same staff member interact with another guest in what appeared to be a much more courteous manner. It made us question whether we were being treated differently because of who we are or where we come from. We cannot know the staff member’s intention, but as guests, that was how the interaction made us feel. We chose Mercure because we expected a certain standard of hospitality. Unfortunately, our first experience in Perth was not the welcoming one we had hoped for. I hope management will take this feedback seriously and review the guest service provided at reception.

This review is of a stay in October 2025 . Our arrival in Perth at the start of a 30 day coach trip with Travelsphere. The staff were really friendly and the rooms, although basic, were clean and tidy. The restaurant had a good lunch/evening menu and the breakfasts were very good value for money. Not far from plenty of places to visit and was also surrounded by convenience stores that were well stocked. Rooms were quiet at night and the beds really comfortable. Overall a pleasant start to our trip around Oz.

The moment we walked in to our room we were very surprised. It seemed totally upgraded from the last time we stayed here. Everything was clean and tidy and we had a nice view of the chapel. This place is the best value you’ll find inner city especially if you want a balcony. The free buses run right past the door so it’s easy to get around. Staff in general were brilliant. Friday night we needed something and the lady sorted it straight away. Saturday night not so good. We needed a hand with the TV and there is a 24/7 number so I called it. The guy really wasn’t interested and although he said he’d come and help he never arrived. That wasn’t great. This place is close to the Royal Perth hospital, Elizabeth Quay, the Perth Mint, Hay St Mall etc etc. Being a budget hotel you can’t expect 5 star, but this is good value for the $$.
