Alpenappartement Europa

Stayed here for 3 nights. Arrived after a 11 hour journey at night. Initial thoughts were very outdated but clean. BUT there was no basics provided except toilet roll. Not even soap to wash your hands. We couldnt make a drink so had to go out and find somewhere that was open. Alarmingly there was also no washing up liquid (which we bought & left behind) so I suspect a lot of guests just rinse their dishes under the tap. It cost us a lot to buy coffee/teabags etc which I feel should of been provided. Overall I would not stay here again or recommend .

I stayed in the Europa with a big group of mates for my friend’s wedding in St Johann. Another of my pals had organised the accommodation for the group so I had no idea what to expect. What a joy arriving at this hotel to find all the elements of a traditional Austrian hotel in place. It looked like a birthday cake on the outside and the rooms inside were glorious too! I bet it looks absolutely tip top surrounded by snow too! To top it off the owner (I’m so annoyed I can’t remember her name!) was a lovely bundle of fun, and tried extra hard to make everyone have a memorable stay. She said she had goosebumps when she saw us all dressed up for the wedding. I was feeling a bit plump that day after too many Austrian dumplings and her kind comments made me feel much better!!!

The apartment is a shabby Tyrolean style lodge on the far side of a village that has no interesting place to see. It hasn't been renovated since the Von Trapp times. The host is a stiff local woman that was precise about instructing us about all her rules but did not even bother to put toilet paper in the bathroom or to monitor that other guests parked somewhere where our car wouldn't be stuck. We had to wait 40 minutes for these rude people to move the car, without her finding a solution rather than lame excuses. Parking was supposed to be free, but she made us pay 5€ per day saying that it was free only outside in the square. We had to pay 50€ cleaning fee but there was no cleaning or change of towels. You can only settle the bill in cash, which is rather inconvenient if you happen not to have any cash with you. Never again!
