Eco Suites Hotel Manaus

I arrived at the Eco Suites around midnight and had no problem checking in at that hour. Every person I met working on the front desk spoke enough English for me and they were helpful. I was asked by the day person if I wanted my room cleaned, and I usually said no. I did ask once that they empty the trash which was done. The room was large and clean and met my basic needs. Like others have said, the air-conditioning was a little noisy, but at least in my room was wall mounted with fins that directed the cool air so it did not blow directly on the bed. The TV had a number of channels including CNN and BBC in English. The bed could have been more comfortable, I could feel the bed springs. The combination safe in the room was locked by a previous guest and when I asked about it they replaced the safe. I guess if you wanted, you could steal the safe since it was not mounted to anything. Whoever replaced the safe seemed not to have checked it, I always try a safe out before locking anything in it, and got a stranges message “Pilas” which means batteries so I did not use it. The bathroom was clean and had a large walk in shower, no tub. The hot water was hot, but it took a long time before the hot water reached the room. Breakfast was basic. There were some bread choices, ham and cheese, scrambled eggs, coffee and some unknown juice that I did not care for. There was always fresh fruit included in the buffet. The breakfast room had more than enough space to seat everyone while I was there. The neighborhood is the reason for my low rating. As the cab brought me to the other, I only saw a couple of people on the streets and figured that was normal for after midnight. The next evening I returned about 6 pm and there were few people about and it was difficult to find dinner in the area. Sunday afternoon the neighborhood was like a ghost town. From past experience, I do not feel comfortable without some other people on the street with me. Yes, it is convenient to both the port and San Sebastián Square, but after dark I would not venture out into the streets near the hotel.

The room was spacious and we didn't have problems with noise. Staff were kind and breakfast simple but enough to get us going. Not in a very nice area but walking distance to the port where tours for Amazon depart. A kind staff member ordered take away for us via phone call and delivered it to our room. Impressed with his recommedation on where to order take away food as it was super affordable.

We spent two nights at the EcoSuites Manaus - one night before our Amazon Clipper Cruise and one night after. We had a late flight into Manaus and arriving at the hotel by taxi late at night was pretty sketchy. There were a number of people wandering around or sleeping on the street around the hotel. It did not feel safe at all and I certainly wouldn't recommend walking around the area after dark. The area is quite busy by day and we didn't have any problems when wandering around. The room was large with a large bed, a desk, mini-fridge, space to hang clothes and a small in-room safe. The bathroom was decent and the shower was huge by comparable standards. Great water pressure and hot water feels like heaven after a few days living on a boat in the Amazon! The room seemed a bit tired and perhaps in need of a good clean, but that might have just been our particular room. The 24-hour reception staff were all friendly and spoke understandable English. They helped arrange taxis to the pick-up location for our Clipper cruise and to the airport early in the morning. Breakfast was standard for an additional R$15 per person. WiFi strength was intermittent but they seem to have a different signal for each floor of the hotel, so there are options if one drops out. I agree with the other review that the window-mounted style air conditioning unit was terrible. The slowest fan speed still blasts air directly at the bed and it's very loud when you're trying to sleep. For a newer hotel it's surprising that they didn't opt for more modern units. All in all a decent option for a night or two in Manaus. I wouldn't recommend trying to walk anywhere after dark - the good thing about the 24-hour reception staff is that they can help coordinate taxis or Uber. If you're going to Manaus for an Amazon river/rainforest tour, maybe consider something closer to the Tropical Manaus Eco-Resort. That seems to be where most of the boats leave from and to get there from the city centre is going to cost you an extra R$50-70 each way anyways.
