Hotel Monte Alegre

A wonderful hotel! Old structure, but cosy, super attentive staff and barbaric breakfast! Great cleaning! I recommend and very much!

The reception from the parking lot was excellent. But then begins the long walk with many stairs. To access the reception more two half-floor lances of stairs. Bad reception. The system was “out of the air” and two employees stopped without initiative. He needed another employee, who had already left the shift, to resolve. There elevator : small and for large people, only once at a time ... (in the door paper glued for 2 people). More stairs and I went to the apartment. Small, very uncomfortable bed. Bathroom equally small and tight. Green loucas (well old). What saved was the good shower. I do not recommend before the hotel does an urgent modernization.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights during the carnival period, from Friday 13 to Monday 16. I understand the surcharge for the carnival but paying 250 € per night for such an outdated hotel seems really exaggerated! Our room was also large being equipped with a front sitting area and then the bedroom (smaller) but the bathroom was really old, dating back to at least the 70s, like the room. Fortunately we were on the sixth floor given the continuous noise coming from the street below. Breakfast is average, good cakes prepared every day. The reception staff is not particularly helpful not to mention the fact that during the stay the room was never cleaned. When I pointed this out at the reception on Sunday they sent a girl who cleaned (summary) the bathroom but not the room and did not want to change the towels because, according to her, it was not planned. This is always for 250 € per night! In front of the hotel there are 2 supermarkets, grocery and other shops, nearby restaurants and clubs, taxis pass continuously. The hotel is in the Lapa district, lively (especially at carnival) although very "popular" and "picturesque", certainly more authentic than the areas of Copacabana or Leblon. In the area you will find the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Selaron Staircase, the Sambodrome and the arches of Lapa.
