King Edward Hotel

My wife, my senior mother, and I stayed here for two nights in July 2026, and the experience did not match the standard expected for a stay costing 995 dollars plus GST. The location is excellent and very convenient within the city. The staff at reception were polite, supportive, and helpful whenever we needed assistance. Cleanliness was acceptable and I have no complaints in that area. The issues were mainly related to the quality of the room and amenities. The room was uncomfortably hot even though the outside temperature during our stay was only around 20 degrees Celsius. The fan provided did not cool the room effectively, which made it difficult for us to rest comfortably, especially for my senior mother. Basic amenities were also lacking. There was no drinking water and no kettle inside the room. Instead, there was a single shared kettle placed in the hallway for all guests. We were never able to use it, even early in the morning. For a hotel charging nearly one thousand dollars for two nights, this was very disappointing. The microwave provided was an old Danby unit. It worked, but it was in such poor condition that I would not keep it in my own home. It felt outdated and did not match the price or the expectations of a modern hotel room. Parking was confusing at first, although understandable given the age of the building. The management did their best to guide us to the dedicated parking area and I appreciate their effort. Overall, while the staff were kind and the location is excellent, the quality of the room and amenities did not match the cost. A couple of years ago, I stayed at a lower priced hotel and received better value including complimentary breakfast. I strongly encourage the hotel management to improve the standard of the rooms and amenities so that they align with the premium rates being charged.

Clean with friendly staff, although they didn’t seem overly knowledgable or able to help with anything more than the very basics. The email that came with unloading/ parking instructions, etc. did not mention streets that were blocked off, which negated some of those instructions. They had also asked about any special requests in the email and I requested decaf coffee, which was accepted with no problem, however upon arrival, discovered that they weren’t able to supply it. Beds were extremely uncomfortable so we slept poorly & came home very sore. However, the room was quiet despite being along the main street.

Horrible experience!! Not at all up to the standards, especially considering the rate and being in Banff! if you’re staying in Banff, make sure to never stay here in King Edward. They have a close parking which is almost 2 km drive and there is no drive-by or anything at the lobby to facilitate moving bags. There is only one person or none at the main desk to help and guide the check in process. There is practically no lobby The rooms are very shady, dirty with mould on the chair and benches. Additionally Our room’s pillows had blood stains and when we spoke to the manager Rahman, he sounded like it’s a common thing and we shouldn’t be worried. Luckily they changed the room which didn’t have blood stained but was still ever dirty and mouldy. Not at all recommended to stay here and spoil your Banff trip.
