Executive Royal Hotel

We booked this hotel at the last minute and only arrived after midnight to a friendly reception. The person at the front desk was very courteous and helpful during checkin. Our room was spacious with two comfortable queen beds and very clean. He gave us a wake-up call at 4 am for our early flight which was appreciated. Conveniently close to the airport. We would definitely stay here again.

They brand themselves as "Where Luxury Meets Hospitality." I disagree. My wife and I were looking for a place to get away for a few days. Some place close to the zoo and restaurants without being downtown. The location was wonderful. Check-in was quick, the lobby was well maintained, and we went off to our room. For me, when I get into a new hotel room, I check the basics. Afterall if you're not hitting the basics you're missing something more. The first thing noticed was the clock, it wasn't close to the actual time, not even an hour off for time change. Then the curtains; the blackout shades were great, but there were no daytime drapes. Your choice - blackout with lights or wide open. We wanted some extra towels, went to the phone and it's corded. That's okay I grew up with them. To create a clean desk appearance the cord was wrapped around the base causing several kinks in the line. The kinks needed to be undone before I could bring the receiver to my ear. I called the front desk twice with no response. Then I went to the desk and made my request. The towels came quickly, that was a plus. Later in the evening we closed the drapes and turned on some lights, that's when we noticed that three bulbs were out (more of the basics). We slept well; the AC was a bit noisy but with an airport close by it was white noise over a jet engine. The following day we went for the included breakfast. The selection was disappointing and the food was mediocre (basics). We skipped the next day and went to Dennys instead. Lastly and the issue I questioned myself to address, the personal hygiene of some staff. I was next to two different housekeepers on each day and I was reminded of having the deodorant talk with grade 6 kids. We skipped the elevator one day.

New ownership a month ago - we stayed at the Executive Royal Inn many times - it was excellent in every way. This time: -Black ant in our bed -Hot food was just warm -confection dispenser empty -front door needed servicing -parking lot needed cleaning - on arrival the A/C in room 119 was not turned on and had to reset the circuit breaker
