Glacier View Inn

This hotel is very expensive and the overall service should be better. Meet and greet was unorganized. Rooms unavailable upon the check in time of 4pm and over an hour before rooms were ready. Only one employee was terrific and if not for Kyler my review would be less than very good.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lodge which is located right next to the athabasca glacier. We are so glad we chose to stay here instead of driving up from banff. We were able to enjoy the full days of visit to the icefield as well as the skywalk. The view of the glacier from the lobby is The lodge has a spacious restaurant with wide variety of items as well as a fine dining facility. There was a coffee machine in the lobby with latte, hot chocolate and expresso options. The rooms were very clean, spacious and well furnished. The staff was very friendly and professional. We would like to give special thanks to Chekina who was helping with check-in. She was courteous, patient and understanding and ensured that we .

For $600/nt (or more) I expect a lot from a hotel. Glacier View did not deliver. From first impressions to last, this place was not a luxury experience, or even a convenient one. First, the good: the room was very nice, quiet, with great views and high-end features like Dyson appliances, luxurious bath items, a Nespresso machine, smart TV, and even a set of binoculars. Also, the hotel lobby is gorgeous and comfortable. The staff is friendly and eager, and we loved the daily afternoon reception with cocktails and charcuterie. Now the bad: The parking situation is a pain. The guest entry is not well labeled (looks like a restricted area you’re not supposed to be in, and in fact it is: hotel guests share a lot with the tour buses, and have to walk past all the tour bus lanes, gift shop, and jam-packed visitor center to get to their rooms). The hotel also shares an elevator with the visitor center, and (of course) all the restaurants. In fact, apart from your own room’s restroom, the only toilet in the building is shared with hundreds of bus tour patrons. But the madness isn’t limited to the tour areas. During our stay, The hotel corridors were always full of trash, laundry, and housekeeping carts. Always. And it seemed like every time we walked by the front desk, some guest was having an issue. Dining was disappointing, too. Altitude restaurant was the only choice we had during our 2-day stay, because the Starbucks and the other cafe were either closed or slammed with people. Worse, Altitude was (at best) inconsistent with offerings and quality. The breakfast buffet was randomly closed, and several menu items (on the already short list) were unavailable. The dishes we got were ok, not great. Despite the restaurant proximity, there is no room service. The main selling point of the place, of course, is its proximity to the glacier tour. And that’s great. But it’s really only useful once, and the rest of the time it’s actually an obstacle, navigating around crowds. If I had to do it again, I’d drive from Jasper or another quieter Icefield Pkwy hotel.
