5000 Motel

I came for a week to train for an Ironman race elsewhere. I also came three times last year for the same reason. It’s not a five star by any means but it brings me back. The mattresses, sheets and towels are 4-5 stars quality. It’s inexpensive. Clean, comfortable, quiet rooms allow relaxation. This hard-working honest and kind owner-couple from China have made big improvements and continue to. The location is convenient to both lakes and the bike path. It is walking distance to large and small grocery stores, a good bakery, fast food selection and Winners, Home Goods and Staples. Despite the homeless issue in Penticton I feel very safe here because of the owner’s diligence. That includes my car and expensive training gear.

I was extremely disappointed. I had stayed at this motel a few years back and it was decent. So I booked a room over Canada Day long weekend and oh my god! Upon entering the room it reeked of cigarettes to the point I was getting a headache, the door had been kicked in and it still had visible damage from it, the curtains do not close and there was a hair clip clipped to them in attempt to close them. The room had a extra bedroom in it, which had three mattress stacked up and they were yellow. I was so grossed out by the room that we checked out 20 mins after checking in. The management was friendly and refunded our room and damage deposit. But I do not recommend staying here. It has changed and you get what you pay for. I wasn’t about to take a chance to see if I was going to be bringing bugs home with me.
