Sandman Vancouver City Centre

Stayed here one night at the end of a tour. The room was clean, functional and spacious with a view of a car park. We appreciated the in-room safe. The bed was comfy and we turned the a/c off. Moxies restaurant, attached, was convenient, if not inspiring. We used the indoor pool and hot tub. The pool was freezing. It was in a nicer part of Vancouver but walking out for our final dinner we walked uphill toward the station judging if we could haul our cases up there, but turning left off the main street a couple of blocks up, found a buzzing area where we finally found somewhere nice to eat and felt better about the city. We never found the station. We had an almost full day to wait for our flight next day so decided to do Grouse Mountain, which is fun and easy with a free shuttle from the waterfront, about 15-20 minutes walk away. The hotel were fine with storing our luggage and also called us a taxi to the airport when we returned. Perfectly acceptable standard and helpful staff but somehow no charm at all, sadly. Typical chain hotel I suppose.

I stayed at the Sandman Vancouver Downtown for the 2026 World Cup. It may not be the prettiest hotel from the outside, but the location right next to the BC Place Olympic Stadium is truly sensational. You can accomplish everything on foot! Gastown, English Bay, and Granville Street are just around the corner. I had booked a room with a view of the stadium and received one as well. The room itself was large, with a cozy couch, a big bed, a refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee maker, and a flat-screen TV. So far, everything is good. Oh yes, there was of course air conditioning as well. The bathroom was a disgrace. Bathtub with a shower curtain and wobbly fixtures. The sink would have been okay for a guest bathroom, but the thing was so small that everything was wet when I washed my face. And the drain was clogged every day, and even though I complained about it, nothing changed. No storage options; I had nowhere to put my stuff. That was really exhausting. Not that we misunderstand each other; for 2-3 nights, it's no problem, but for a whole week, it's annoying. The week cost a total of 9,500 CAD! Adventurous! As a hotel guest, you could not just walk into the Shark Club Sports Bar; you had to stand in line. But unfortunately, that is normal during the World Cup. All in all, it was at most satisfactory.

We spent a couple of nights in this hotel because it was across the street from an event we were attending. Pros + Good staff: courteous, kind, attentive. + Decent location at downtown's edge for activities. + Reasonable mattresses that provided decent support and comfort. Cons - Paper-thin walls that transmit normal-volume conversations in adjacent rooms into yours. Worst hotel we have visited in this regard. - Noise from outside was constant and unmitigated. We have stayed in many hotels in Vancouver. None gave the experience of sleeping in a roadway this one provided. - Had to run AC non-stop because otherwise the room was unpleasantly warm (upper 70s inside while lower 60s outside.) - Dowdy and threadbare throughout: elevators/lifts, rugs, walls, Washroom fan worn out and wind tunnel noisy, etc. Way past time for a refresh. - Attached/adjoing facilities were mediocre. There was a bar and a breakfast/lunch place that were of lower middle quality. - Not really clean in the room or in the common spaces. Dust on the hall ledges, smears of ?? on bathroom door and doorjamb. Ick. Overall, for a hotel that costs as much as it does, it was underwhelming and it failed at a hotel's primary objective: conditions for a good night's sleep. Avoid, if possible.
