Sandman

Great experience and very welcoming location. The room was clean, well appointed and nicely furnished. The room had a sitting area, kitchen, table for dining, and a seperate area for the bedroom, with very comfy bed and pillows. The decor was tasteful and it was nice to see updated decor that has just the right amount of furniture. The staff were friendly and engaging. The exterior landscaping was very well taken care of and compliments the hotel.

Two stays on business, both check-ins fraught with errors and discourteous staff. Actually well beyond discourteous and into outright rude. Wrong room, misplaced bags, poor communication between staff members and customers. Other team members complained of rooms that smelled of smoke and ticking sounds that persisted through the night. Our bathroom was so dirty it was unusable.

We were surprised to be charged a full $100 pet fee, unlike previous experiences at Sandman Hotels (and other hotels in Victoria). We always bring our own blanket (which has a picture of her in a Sandman Hotel), clean the room ourselves, and skip housekeeping, so this affected our review — was great until we checked out and that was just hurtful. The hotel is well maintained, modern, and has spacious rooms with family- and pet-friendly features (though pet policy varies and our opinion changed drastically when we checked out). Amenities include a proper coffee maker, water kettle, microwave, mini-fridge, an ergonomic desk chair, reading lights, and ample outlets—all in a standard room. The bathroom is large, especially for a standard room. Facilities include a nice pool, hot tub, secure underground parking with reserved spots for Platinum RSVP members (so we felt comfortable going out on busy days knowing there would be an underground spot available), and card-restricted access to elevators and stairs.
