Middle Beach Lodge

Not sure why the reviews on TripAdvisor are so mixed. Prior to coming I was a little concerned but really didn’t experience anything negative regarding our stay. We had the deluxe single cabinet and it was perfect for our family of 4 including 2 college aged young adults and our dog who received treats and a dog bed, towel and dog bags to use. The cabin had that cozy rustic look but also every convenience needed for a comfortable stay including comfy couches, beds, fireplace, eating area, full kitchen etc. High ceilings and big windows revealing an ocean view as well as chairs on the balcony (decent size). We were also very close to the main lodge which also had gorgeous views and comfy sitting areas in a grand lodge like setting. Breakfast was offered everyday. Simple but certainly enough- hard boiled eggs, yoghurt, oatmeal, fresh baked bread, muffins, croissants, cinnamon rolls. Oranges, apples, bananas. Coffee tea was available all day. Everything self serve. We ate dinner at the restaurant twice, one sit down and another time take out and the food and service was very good Grounds were great for walks. There was a bbq area with a fire pit The hotel is situated between both middle beach and Mackenzie both accessible by a short trail. Mackenzie beach was a 1 minute walk if that. One of the evenings we walked along the beach to the Tis win hotel where they have a browns social club restaurant. 5 min walk. Middle beach on other side was only a couple minutes more. It is a small beach but very quiet as there are no other paths there besides from the hotel and from the tonguin trail which can take you all way into Tofino. Both times we went there we pretty much had the whole beach to ourselves. Tofino a 10 minute drive. Overall we enjoyed the location. Close enough to get to town but convenient to beaches and walkable to a couple of other restaurants. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.

The location is very good with good views of ocean & middle beach also very peaceful. We stopped at middle lodge with an ocean view but unfortunately that was the best thing about this accommodation. The room was very small with non existent space to unpack clothes, could not even lay suitcases flat on floor. Bathroom very small & basic. No tv or in room safe. Breakfast was help yourself buffet style with poor quality products & certainly not an enjoyable experience. For the price point we paid was extremely disappointed with this accommodation. Might have good views but that shouldn’t justify charging what they do. We were also victims of the data scam what affected the hotel which cost us money & weren’t offered any compensation or upgrade. Or even an apology of some kind. Would not recommend, try the Best Western just before the turn off for here.

Beautiful location, but absolutely not worth the price We stayed in the Headlands building and, unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing considering the price and the expectations we had. We booked our stay almost a full year in advance, yet we were given a room directly above the kitchen. Our “view” was mainly of the kitchen roofs, with only a tiny glimpse of the ocean hidden behind the trees. The so-called balcony was barely large enough for one person to stand on. For a property in this price category, this was extremely disappointing. To be fair, there are some genuinely beautiful aspects of Middle Beach Lodge. The beach is incredibly close and absolutely stunning. The shared lounge is rustic, cozy and beautifully designed, and the view from its terrace is breathtaking. There is also a small restaurant and a bar. But unfortunately, that is where the positives ended for us. Considering how isolated Middle Beach Lodge is by foot and how little there is within walking distance, we found the opening hours very disappointing. The restaurant closes at 8:30 p.m. and the bar at 10 p.m. What surprised us even more was that at 10 p.m. we were also asked to leave the lounge. Why can guests not simply stay there quietly, enjoy the atmosphere, play a board game or have a conversation after the bar closes? Being asked to leave exactly at 10 p.m. felt completely at odds with the cozy lodge experience the property seems to advertise. The service was another major disappointment. The property appears to be staffed predominantly by students or very young adults, and unfortunately, the level of professionalism often reflected that. At reception, Shae was the exception — she was very competent, professional and helpful. Some of the other staff barely acknowledged or greeted guests and seemed more interested in their phones. Breakfast felt more like a cafeteria than a hotel in this price range. Tables were often not cleaned, so guests had to clear or wipe them themselves. The small buffet frequently ran out of items, and replenishing them could take a long time. Guests are also expected to clear their own dishes. The bar service was probably the biggest disappointment. At times, the attitude was horrible, felt dismissive and gave us the impression that staff simply wanted to finish their shift rather than provide hospitality. Again, there was one very positive exception: Dean was genuinely friendly, attentive and professional, and we appreciated his service. Middle Beach Lodge has an absolutely beautiful natural setting and enormous potential. Unfortunately, beautiful surroundings alone are not enough to justify the prices. When paying for a lodge experience, we expect not only a beautiful location, but also professional hospitality, appropriate service standards and facilities that match the price. Sadly, we will not be returning, and we have also informed our travel agency about our experience.
