The Bulldog Hotel Silverstar

Have stayed here previously, the hotel was a little dated and tired but kinda funky, the location is great. Booked again this week for 4 nights. We were flying out of Toronto but a big snow storm and a plane crash meant we couldn't make it out. Booking. com refunded us our booking fee , Avis refunded us the entire cost of our rental car but Bulldog in would give us nothing, not even a partial refund or credit. Salt in the wound of a spoiled holiday. Won't be back

We weren't sure what to expect from the Bulldog Hotel as we knew it was less than "luxury" accommodations. The hotel met all our needs for facilities (restaurant) and despite being a bit run down, it was comfortable and had friendly staff. We've travelled the world and stayed in all kinds of places from budget to luxury and all we ask is that places are clean. The Bulldog wasn't. There were layers of dust and grime everywhere, likely a result of the lack of staff.

We had a good stay. There is literally nowhere else you can get a night on the mountain for $199 per night between Christmas and New Year. Also, it’s the only pet friendly hotel and pets stay for free! Rooms were clean and warm. Couple of things to bear in mind which I wish we had known: 1. The only pet friendly place to eat on the mountain is The Bulldog restaurant attached to the hotel. This is not open on a Tuesday. We were there on a Tuesday! So we had to take shifts going for dinner somewhere else which wasn’t ideal. In the warmer months there would be patios available but over the holidays you really need indoor eating! 2. The snow maintenance takes place 2-6am every day. This is quite noisy with various beeping and can be bothersome for some people (and dogs). Recommend ear plugs (for people!) 3. We had a lot of snow during our stay and the parking lot for the hotel was cleared to a point but we needed to dig our vehicle out. You shouldn’t be driving up there without decent snow tires BUT you will get seriously stuck if you don’t have good tires. We were fine but other people struggled. All in all would definitely stay there again! But remember ear plugs and come up with a plan for dinner on a Tuesday!
