This was our last night on the East Coast and the hotel was a real disappointment. It is very tired and run down. The pictures are deceiving. It looks historic and charming in the main lobby, but the rooms are old and dated. The AC did not work well. It was freezing or too hot. The shower was dismal and sprayed the whole bathroom floor. It’s sad because the hotel looked to have potential to bring it back to its past state.

The term "boutique" is a curious choice. The experience here is.. inconsistent. Our room was excellent. Two beds, though we only needed one, that were comfortable and cozy. Air conditioning worked well. The building was a 35 minute walk to the Dartmouth Ferry, and mere moments to the rowing course on the nearby lake. There are quite a few very nice eateries within a 20-30 minute walk. On the other hand there were some misses. First, the lady at the desk when we checked in was a little sparse with the information - didn't tell us that breakfast was included or where it was to be, didn't inform us of the laundry facility. On those issues, breakfast was adequate but nothing spectacular. The buttermilk fried chicken and waffles with hot honey turned out to be two Eggo waffles (I suspect) topped with two chicken fingers that were probably frozen and heated up in an air fryer, topped further by a sunny side up egg. Listen, it was tasty enough, and filled me up, but not quite what was promised on the menu. On the last morning breakfast was a buffet; the eggs were cold, bacon was scarce and the potato patties (again, frozen and probably air-fried) were limp. All of the staff were very pleasant and friendly, helpful when asked. There is nothing wrong with the service or the room or even the food if this was called the Discount Hotel Halifax Dartmouth. But boutique? Falls a bit short.

Do not stay here. Bad location, filthy vestibule. Indifferent desk staff. Outdated and garish rooms. The only saving grace was the delightful lady who served is our decent breakfast. I stayed there after a long day of travel to Halifax. We were scheduled to stay there on our last night in Canada, but canceled and rebooted and a wonderful little motel in Peggy's Cove.
