White Point Beach Resort

The main property is well maintained and on a gorgeous stretch of clean sandy beach. In recent years, several new luxury accommodations have been constructed along the shore. The time share homes in the woods have been neglected and allowed to run down.

I would love to write a positive review about this place but the accommodations are far from rustic or outdated. The cabins (shacks) are literally dilapidated. They are sinking into the ground. No AC. Most windows either did not open or had to be propped open with a piece of the firewood provided for the fireplace. The bathroom window did not open and with the scorching heat this past weekend, we had to shower with the door held open with towels (the door swung closed due to the slant of the cabin floor) or else you’d suffocate. There was a twin bed and a double in the 1 bedroom. Everything was antiquated. The toilet cover wouldn’t stay up due to the way the countertop jetted out for the sink. The water was brown. The sink tap and counter was stained from rust. The old sofa was ancient. The bar fridge didn’t sit level and went off kilter each time it was opened. There was still sand on the bedroom floor from the previous guests. The outside of the cottage looked like something chewed the bottom off it. The underneath was open to critters. The beach was gorgeous, but the water was almost too cold to get it. Which is not the resorts fault. I get that. But that was the only reprieve from the heat you’d get with a cabin with no AC. Our neighbors on Saturday night partied until the wee hours, which is great, if we could have closed our windows. We did not have the option without smothering in the heat. The outdoor pool was full of sand (understandable being next to the beach) but was also full of bugs. Nobody cleaned it the entire weekend. The staff were lovely. The restaurant was mediocre at best. For the price we paid for 1 weekend in this “shack”, I’m pretty sure we could have stayed elsewhere. Lesson learned.

This was our first time to White Point Beach Resort and we had a great time. The beach itself is long, sandy and scenic although the water was pretty chilly. Good for strolling or just sitting and admiring the surf. The food was very tasty in all the restaurants -- Elliot's, the bar and the tent (but the buffet was rather expensive). Our room was very nice, quiet and comfortable. My only issue with the accommodations is that they don't clean and stock the rooms until you check out (for environmental reasons) so we had to seek out supplies on our own. There is often live entertainment at the bar, and it was always good. Service everywhere was very friendly and helpful. And it was fun to stroll through the grounds and along the trails. We saw lots of bunnies and a few deer. At times, the resort can seem crowded with families and groups, but there was always somewhere to go that was more peaceful. All in all, we had a very nice time and would come again.
