The Crown And Cushion

We were booked for Windsor Theatre and needed overnight accommodation. The Crown and Cushion proved to be an excellent choice. Car parking in the small rear car park is limited but invaluable if you can get a place. Great welcome on arrival and, very helpfully, we were able to check in early. The 600 year old building oozes charm. We stayed in Room #6, up a narrow curved staircase. The room was compact and perfectly comfortable, with a nice, modernised WC/shower room. The full English breakfast was hearty, well prepared and very welcome. Would happily return.

Wandered over the Thames from the hub-bub of Windsor and found this great watering hole. There a lovely beer garden patio area to the rear, which is pleasantly decorated with bamboo and other plants and is a great sun-trap. The immediate area has a great selection of quaint shops and is on route to the famous Eton college. Check-it-out.

The good - the location is fantastic! It's less than 1 minute walk to the bridge and beautiful views of the Thames. The hosts were very nice and let us into our rooms early since they were ready for us. There was no noise so we were able to sleep with the windows open. The not as good - If you arrive before they open at noon, you'll be waiting outside until they open. If you pack like an american (enough to be gone for weeks) you'll struggle to arrive and leave through the gravel car park. When I reached out to them about what I planned to say in my review, they reminded me that check-in is 2:30pm so I recommend don't arrive early at all. The bad - the bed was so uncomfortable that I'm still hurting days later. The springs are shot and make loud noises when you shift in any way. The hosts insisted that it's a new hotel grade bed but, if so, they were sold a bad product. The food, while it looked fantastic and crispy, was a disappointment. Everything that was supposed to be crispy was rubbery and the fish was an unappetizing color. The closet had broken hangers and the shower's temperature would fluctuate from hot to cold while in use.
