I've stayed at Fairholm many times now, and I've always resisted writing a review — partly because it felt like the kind of place you want to keep to yourself. But after our most recent stay, I feel obligated to finally share it with the world. We're experienced travelers — we've stayed in five-star properties around the globe — and we keep coming back to Fairholm because it feels, genuinely, like home. There's a warmth here that's hard to describe without sounding like a cliché, so I'll just say it plainly: the staff have a way of being completely present when you need them and completely invisible when you don't. You feel like the only guests on the property, and yet the moment you need anything, someone is simply there. It's a rare balance, and it's clearly intentional. The gardens are beautiful, the location is excellent, and the property gives you real space to breathe — nothing cramped or overdone. It's also worth noting that Fairholm is now transitioning into its next generation, with the founding owners' children taking on more of the day-to-day care of the property. Whatever that succession looks like behind the scenes, it hasn't cost the place a shred of its character — if anything, the same warmth we've experienced on every visit is still exactly there. And then there's breakfast — which is, honestly, what finally pushed me to write this. My husband and I recently stayed at a five-star hotel in Madrid, in their top-tier lounge experience, where breakfast featured corn-fed Ibérico ham, honeycomb served whole, and every delicacy Spain is known for. Visually, it was stunning — the kind of spread you photograph before you eat. But it was served cold, and for what we paid, it fell flat. What Fairholm offers, without any of that pretense, is simply better. It's warm, thoughtfully made, and genuinely cared for — the kind of breakfast that reminds you presentation isn't the same thing as quality. Every time we've stayed here, that's held true. We're picky travelers, and we don't say this lightly: Fairholm is one of the very few places we return to again and again. I've already told one of the owners' children, half-joking, that when they open a new building, I want to be first on the list.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Casual in address but very professional in dealing with guests. It is a historic house that creaks (you have to like that), but it is very tastefully decorated in terms of color, furnishings, and artwork. The selection of breakfast dishes is diverse and of convincing quality. A very nice hotel with a lot of personality.
