Gingerbread Manor

My husband and I were going to Montreal to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. On line, the Gingerbread Manor looked like a charming place to spend our 4 days. We couldn't have been more wrong! To start with, without our knowledge, the proprietors had switched the room we'd chosen on the 2nd floor to one on the 3rd floor. At 71 I wasn't partial to carrying 2 pieces of luggage up dark, narrow steps to a room where the air conditioner barely worked. I have dairy and gluten dietary restrictions. For whatever reason, the host that did the cooking was convinced I was vegan! He served me tofu! I did eventually get an egg but he wouldn't hear me when I said I wasn't vegan. During breakfast every morning, his partner would go into the common room which, was directly adjacent to the dining room, and turn on the TV. When you're trying to visit with others at the table, TV dining is annoying. Overall, there was really nothing charming about the decor either. Spend your B&B dollars elsewhere.

The location was fantastic and the hosts were great. Loved it.

We stayed at Gingerbread Manor for four nights. The location was perfect! We were able to walk or take the Metro everywhere. Saint Louis Park with its beautiful row houses is a minute away and we were surrounded by numerous restaurant choices. We were able to take the Metro (5 mins away) to Old Montreal and Wellington Street, and walk to McGill University and the McCord Stewart Museum (the Indigenous Voices of Today exhibit is a must see). We visited Montreal during the Jazz festival, which meant we could join the crowds, listen to great music, eat good food, and return to a quiet and peaceful neighborhood at the end of the day. Ephraim and Yves were excellent hosts, creating a cozy retreat (our room was spacious and clean with lots of natural light), providing many options for breakfast, sharing stories of Montreal and Quebec, and connecting us to fellow travelers.
