We stayed June 19-22 in an oceanfront room (DBOF) and did not have direct beach access for a single day of our trip. The beach was closed for construction, which we were notified of only 13 days before arrival with no cancellation offer and no rate adjustment — far too late to rebook comparable accommodations at fair rates.
The Marriott-designated alternative beach was completely non-functional. When we drove there during stated operating hours we found zero Marriott staff and all beach chairs stacked and unavailable.
Construction noise was audible from our room throughout the entire stay and the active construction site was visible directly from our oceanfront room — the very room we paid a premium for.
When we raised this at the property the manager incorrectly claimed a free cancellation had been offered, which is directly contradicted by the June 6 notification email we received, which contains no such offer.
The resort fees of $53.30 KYD per night were charged in full despite the beach services they are meant to cover being completely unavailable.
The pool and restaurant staff were friendly and the room itself was clean. But we booked a beach resort specifically for beach access. What we received was a construction site with a pool. Formal complaint filed with Marriott corporate.

Restaurant at the Marriott Grand in Houston, TX- has tanked. Really bad - when it was the St. Regis it was superb and it was the reason I stayed here. I love the people at this hotel and the wait staff at the hotel are also amazing. Sadly Marriott has taken a Rolls Royce of a restaurant and turned It into a Kia. The Eggs Benedict at this property (when it was the St. Regis) was a top 5 including my travels to 5 star hotels in the US and Europe, Eggs Benedict now is on par with Denny's--cold and tasteless, the hollandaise was goopy and cold, it came with hard eggs, and the muffins were barely toasted and they were doughy and chewy. I decided to give them another shot for lunch, I tried the Caesar Salad with salmon, salad was acceptable but the $18.00 salmon on the salad was inedible, it was chewy, bland and tasteless- I asked then to take if off the bill after one bite and I sent it back- I've never sent anything back at a restaurant in my life. The wait staff is wonderful, really kind and attentive, I hope they get a kitchen that will support them - The restaurant is almost always empty and now I understand why-
