My partner and I stayed for two nights at this hotel during our road trip in Patagonia. The hotel is historic and the location is perfect. The room is comfortable and spacious. However, my 5-star rating mainly goes to the reception staff, especially Gustavo. Our stop in Punta Arenas was meant to visit the king penguin colony in Porvenir. Our local tour operator canceled the excursion, and Gustavo went above and beyond to help us find a solution. In the end, he made it possible for us to spend a wonderful day with the penguins. Kindness and professionalism made our stay in Punta Arenas truly unforgettable.

I booked this hotel based on recommendations from this sight. It was great, so nice to be away from chain hotels. I requested and got a room facing the square, and it was a treat. They offered me an early check in, for a modest sum, something that other hotels should learn from. Perfect choice for the start of my holiday.

If I could give zero stars I would. The Plaza Hotel is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Old structure, neglected and with a strong stale smell as soon as you enter. The rooms allocated to us and our friends were tiny, dirty and badly kept. The bathroom was simply obscene, with no room even to put your things. The bed was in embarrassing condition: duvet without duvet cover, dirty and full of stains. Breakfast was miserable and of very low quality. But the most serious thing concerns security: with our key we were able to open the door to our friends' room. An absurd and unacceptable situation. The reception staff seemed confused and unprofessional, unable to handle any problems. After just one night we literally escaped and moved to the hotel opposite, the Hotel Cabo de Hornos, where we finally found cleanliness, professionalism and a true hotel standard. A place to absolutely avoid. Punta Arenas deserves much better. 🚫
