Hefei Shushan International Hotel

This is one of those places where I tried to stay positive, but there were too many things far from perfect. First one was finding it! The map location they gave me on the C-Trip site was one block away. Telephoning helped but the roadworks were not allowing us access to the right street. Finally, the taxi driver drops me across the street while rain is pouring. I run to the hotel, about 80 m, and two concierges standing WITH UMBRELLAS did not bothered to even acknowledge me! Staff inside was very polite, and spoken English was good. Room was lacking maintenance, and any attention to details was lacking. Holes around the power points just show that management simply does not care about anything. I was placed in a smoking room, without being asked if I am smoker or not. On the other hand, the area is far from the downtown but very pleasant. Wi-Fi is free! Staff is very helpful and considerate most of the time. Breakfast menu was impressive, and you can even have free coffee and beer (I don't drink but many used this opportunity to have a cheerful day)! Clean, but worn out, a place which is simply not acceptable for most people who are not living in China. And a warning for all single male travelers: be prepared for all night harassment by the numerous "ladies of the night" (who look barely legal) who will keep ringing your room phone, knock on the door, and even stop you in the hallways to offer you "massage"! In 5 years in China I've never experienced such open solicitation... Obviously, someone in the local authorities do not share the opinion that they are doing anything wrong.

I stayed here for 1 night. The place is a bit of a dinosaur - a throw back to the old days in China. I arrived late in the evening. The room smelled of cigarettes and the sheets were not clean. There were various "business cards" for hookers waiting under my door stop. In the morning I was awoken as if there were people in my room...actually what happened was that the building has an inner and outer shell and the inner windows had been left open, so conversations from other floors were clearly audible in my room. The bedroom was very large but the finishes were very poor. Breakfast was drab. I won't be back.
