Xiangming

Building are organized around a large body of water stocked with brightly coloured fish, walkways are beautiful, grounds are beautiful. Breakfast was a large, buffet style where you could order up omelettes. Room was spacious. The Assistant manager helped us book a car for two day trips. Yellow Mountain was a wow on a rainy weather day. Dinner at the restaurant was very good and cheap! If I was to dig deep for a complaint it would be zero English TV channels. I heartily recommend this hotel.

This hotel in Huangshan City (for some reason the airport is called Tunxi) caters mostly to Chinese people interested in hiking in The Yellow Mountains. I was there for an international conference hosted by China. Enough of the staff speaks at least some english so language is not a big issue. The hotel is just outside of the city on a lake. Taxis to the city are very inexpensive so no problem. My room was large and very clean with full amenities. All of our meals were buffet style and almost all dishes were Chinese. Among the most exotic or unusual choices were fish heads, coagulated duck blood, chicken feet, pumpkin bacteria, duck intestines and exploding deer breast. There were a few choices that westerners could eat. Breakfast was similar but there was an opportunity to ask for an omelette. For some reason the orange juice was hot. All in all a very Chinese experience.

This is a very spacious hotel with a gigantic lobby and very large rooms and corridors. It is totally comfortable although it is a bit of walk across the bridge to your rooms. Not much view...maybe they know everyone is headed to YELLOW MOUNTAIN for the views of a lifetime. We came and went on our Tour Bus but enjoyed the good breakfast in the pleasant breakfast room. Nonetheless, the hotel lacked personality. But sometimes a hotel is just a shelter, albeit a spacious and lovely one.
