Beijing Donghuang Hotel

First, here's some tips, because everything about this hotel is hard work (for non-Mandarin speakers) GETTING THERE The name in CN is: 东煌酒店 and the address is: 北京市朝阳区望京广顺南大街16号. The actual entrance is behind the New World Department Store and Wangjing South station, Exit/Entrance A. I suggest getting this printed in Chinese to show your taxi driver as many details as possible. CHECK-IN If you arrive past 6pm you MUST have secured your booking with a credit card, otherwise they will resell your room. REVIEW If you don't speak Mandarin this Hotel is awful. And if your travel agency does not provide a credit card during booking, the Hotel will release your room on the day of your arrival, and you'll have to stay somewhere else. Whilst this did actually happen, the Donghuang night manager did speak English and did find me another Hotel - however it was more expensive and I still paid the extra and the taxi fair (+ mandatory 20yuan tip!) to and from the other hotel. No form of covering costs or compensation (arguably my Corp Travel Agent is the one at fault). The rest of the stay (7 nights) was just ok. Musty smelling room, pretty sure smoking inside it has happened frequently. No iron in the room. The room was ok, it needs refurbishing to remove the mould from the bathroom. The room has a very traditional feel, and maybe at one point it was 4 star, but it's definitely a 3 star room now. Cleaners were good though. The 'Fitness Centre' is a storage room. Not worth bothering with. Breakfast actually is ok, some western choices, the buffet is extensive though. I saw room service being delivered, but no menu in my room. Overall, aside from the night manager I met when I arrived to not having a room, no one else seemed to speak English. So it just felt like it wasn't possible to find out anything about the hotel or it's services unless it was written down. At the end of the day, if the location is close to your intended business activities and you speak Mandarin, this might be acceptable. If you only speak English, I suggest avoiding, and trying the nice looking Holiday Inn nearby.

We spent 4 nights at this hotel for vacation. I know it was in a business district but it was our best option to meet friends in the area. The room was a good size with comfortable bed and pillows. There is a mall in the ground level and subway just few steps away. The breakfast is good if it is part of your room deal. If not, you can just grab your coffee at Starbucks located at the ground floor.

A bit far from the city centre, this is a good business hotel if you're working in the area. The location is convenient, staff is helpful, rooms are clean, breakfast choice is quite good. I stayed here for four days and it was a really pleasant stay. A good choice if you need to work around this area.
