BUPT Hotel

Really good hotel on the basis of how much I paid & the location of it. You need to catch a taxi to most places. The food is really good and the rooms are good for a solo traveler. The only negative side is that they asked me to pay for a towel cause my hair dye was washing out (no other hotel has asked me to pay, not even the hotels back home in Australia) and told me I can’t wash anymore which was a bit “what the hell” moment. Despite the language barrier, the hotel was helpful.

The hotel bills itself as business hotel, but the business center is none existent, I. Plus not even print out a document. Guest room has good size and the picture on the website are nice, the reality is: good bed, okay bathroom, lights so dim you feel like you are in the club, light switches puzzle you to death to find the right one to turn on the right lighting source. The elevator is quite dirty, the lobby looks grand, but the public toilet located at the lobby is a disgrace.

I had to make this booking on the way to Shanghai airport to fly to Beijing but when I arrived at the hotel I was surprised that everything was ready for my visit. I had an excellent, very large room with really good amenities and the bed was really comfortable. I did not book the room with breakfast and as the price for breakfast was quite expensive for what was on order I decided to skip it but as there is a family mart (like 7/11) in the lobby I was able to get some croissants. As the hotel is situated right next to Beijing University, and it is summer break, there are a lot of students handing around in the lobby in the morning waiting for their taxis (air-conditioned in the 38C heat outside) so this makes it a little difficult to get a taxi yourself and it is very crowded and noisy. For my business trip the location was perfect as it's close to most of the R&D centers in Beijing where my meeting took place. I would definitely book this hotel again for a business trip but hopefully when the students are back in class as this was really the low light for me and my colleagues.
