Chang An Grand

This hotel was our first in China and although we had heard that the beds in China are very firm, nothing prepares you for the hardness of them. It literally felt like we were laying on a bed of concrete - no give in it at all. We both struggled to get comfortable and get to sleep and my husband likes a firm bed. The hotel itself was quite nice and the food in the restaurant was really good. Plenty of food to choose from for breakfast but the toaster was hopeless. We didn't bother with toast as it was just too slow and the queue too long.

The hotel rooms are spacious and clean. The bathrooms need an upgrade, cracks in the walls etc. Cigarette smells in the corridor, in spite of signs saying no smoking. However, the rooms were comfortable, clean, quite large. The bed was a huge, very firm, but we both slept well. The restaurant had a good menu - try the prawns!!!. The staff were very helpful regarding how hot some of the dishes were. Small supermarket around the corner if you need fresh fruit. Too far away to get to a decent sized shopping mall though

We stayed here as part of a tripadeal booking in August 2019 and have enjoyed many aspects of the hotel. THE GOOD: - Gorgeous lobby - Some staff were very helpful - Range of breakfast options THE BAD: - Rooms stink badly of cigarette smoke - Bathroom is poorly maintained, chipped and broken fixtures - Half of the electrical outlets don’t work - Ice bucket is provided but there are no ice machines. If you want ice you have to walk through the restaurant every time - Fridge in room does not cool below ambient temperatures - No overhead light, just lamps - Very hard beds, which can come as a shock to western guests - Hotel concierge staff snickering to each other while serving us, often taking 2-3 minutes to even acknowledge you at an empty counter This hotel is all talk, no walk. If it weren’t part of a package deal there would be no way I’d pay to stay here, as the rooms are motel quality.
