China National Convention Center Grand Hotel

Stayed two nights here during a conference at the Convention Centre. This hotel is far from an international business standard. Tired rooms with basic amenities, underwhelming breakfast buffet and slow service. Avoid, if you can afford an international business hotel chain instead.

Well located for events at convention centre or any of the Olympic stadium/venues. Metro station is about 5 minutes walk away. Various shopping centres also nearby - there is one directly across the road from the hotel with coffee shops, foodcourt, cinema and a supermarket in the basement level (European and local foods). There are more restaurants and shops at the metro station. Rooms in the hotel were large, clean and the beds comfortable. Water pressure in shower was excellent and housekeeping were pleasant and did a great job. Air-conditioning worked well which was a relief given it was 40 degrees celcius outside! For a conference hotel it didnt seem overly crowded and there were no delays at check in or for lifts. Breakfast had a reasonable choice including western and chinese options. We had a view of the bird nest and water cube buildings which was nice. There is an internal and external walkway to the conference centre for events in the main building. Finally our gratitude goes out to the hotel manager who was able to find us a room for 5 nights after we discovered our booking agent had made our reservation for the wrong month! We were charged the conference price and not some exorbitant rack rate. He was kind and welcoming - a credit to his hotel and his country.

Had a five night stay at the CNCCGH in November in furtherance to attendance at an event next door at the China National Convention Centre. This was a superb hotel full of pros - 1. Cost - my five night stay with breakfast at the CNCC Grand Hotel cost me less than a one night stay in New York a few months back. And that stay didn't even include a meal. 2. Hotel room was well appointed and comfortable. The bathroom contained all the necessary amenities such as soap, shampoo, cream etc. as well as some extras - shaving set, toothbrush, comb should you require those. You also receive two bottles of water per day 3. Breakfast buffet which was included contained both Western and Chinese meal options. Given that I had 5 mornings to dine I had lots of time to sample the variety and one need not get bored with one particular dish 4. Location to the convention centre makes it very convenient and there is an underground passage which can be used to go from the hotel to the convention centre. Especially useful when the weather is particularly wet and or cold. 5. Being in close proximity to the Olympic Village meant one could go for a run there fairly easily if using the hotel's fitness facility was not your thing. I also used the hotel gym once when the weather outside was wet and it was passable. 6. Public Transport r.e. metro station is close by in the Olympic Green. A taxi can be called fairly quickly to the hotel as well. Cons The CNCC is located around the 4th ring road of Beijing therefore you are fairly outside of the city centre. With traffic, reaching Tiananmen Square (centre of Beijing) could be a challenge
