Holiday Inn Beijing Deshengmen

My sister a room for me and her 3 days prior to the trip. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to make it due to an emergent matter at work. When I got to the hotel after a 16 hour international flight I was told that I cannot check in because my name was not on the reservation. My sister then called the IHG customer service and the IHG representative called the hotel front desk asking to add my name and was refused. The hotel front desk staff gave IHG representative a 021 number to call which turned out was not working. I was too exhausted to take my luggages and go to another hotel and paid this hotel for a new booking. Later I regretted because with that money I could have gotten a much better hotel in the area. Here is what I found of the hotel: The hotel was not only outdated but also lack of basic maintenance and cleaning. The thermostat was malfunctioning and showed a room temperature of 13C. I had to turn the cooling settings down to below 13C for the AC to work. The carpet had stains in multiple areas . The light switches did not work properly. I ask the front desk if they have a scale to weigh my luggage and was told that there was a body scale in the bathroom which turned out nonexistent. I called the front desk and was told someone will send one over. Waited for over 20 minutes and had to call the virtual assistant again to get one (not sure if the human at front desk actually did anything). The worst part: the shower stall had molds in many of the tile grouts and some of the tiles were covered in yellowish fungus from not being properly scrubbed for months. The bath towels were thin and rag like. Not sure how this hotel got a 4-star rating on major travel websites. Will definitely not recommend it to anyone.

This is the best holiday inn location I have been to on my travels, not only was my room upgraded to the top floor suite with city view, the hotel also offered breakfast which isn't standard for a holiday inn hotel. The housekeeping staff also borrowed their power adapter for me, as someone who just landed in the country. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Beijing!

I stayed there for a few nights in December of 2024 during a visit to Beijing Normal University. The room was large and clean. It was quiet in the hotel. The hotel staff were very helpful. Some of them do not speak English, but I always found someone in the front desk who speaks English. The view from my room---that of the city of Beijing---was very nice, especially at night. Breakfast was included in my stay and it was fabulous---pretty much everything that I find in a continental breakfast in the US plus cooked Chinese food like noddles, pancakes, curries etc. I ate a dinner in the hotel and it was quite good as well. I requested for a humidifier and they brought one in my room immediately. Every day, after servicing the room, the room service people left a note---I found that very nice of them. Overall, I was very happy with my stay there and would gladly stay there again.
