Rosedale Hotel and Suites Beijing

No English,no acknowledge or wave as passing the front desk No extra pillows, Even for an Injured lady who hurt her arm Bar staff useless asked if I minded if i would use same beer glass before ( who trains these people??) as her boyfriend was at the end of the bar waiting to chat,in English, then claimed no English when questioned about bill. Food was sad and breakfast was a rush for the pastries each morning, which were replenished with dud ones when gone , tea was watered down, no real variety.. Too the tired staff, stay off your phones hiding behind front counter and get some lessons on some old fashioned customer service please try and at least smile.

Upon arrival this hotel appears to be clean and inviting. The you leave the foyer, the rooms are outdated and in need of a major upgrade and a good clean. Wallpaper is peeling, there is dust caked on fixtures above arms reach, the smell of stale cigarettes even though Non Smoking room, paint peeling on doors. The rooms are small, our double bed was up against the wall, so you either had to climb over partner or climb out from the bottom of the bed. Bathrooms old and lots of repaired cracks. This hotel has a bar, and several restaurants. We ate dinner in the restaurant next to the bar the first night there, food was good and waiter pleasant. Breakfast was in the other restaurant, basic buffet with a small range of hot and cold food. Toaster was slow and you need to cook bread several times to make it toast. If you want pastries get there early as once the one small basket has gone they are not replenished. Tea and coffee get weaker with each refill. We went for a drink in the Bar, even though they have a drinks list, you will not get what is on it, the staff have no idea how to make the simplest of drinks and nearly everything on the list they don't have. There is no outdoor dining options. Staff all look miserable, non claim to speak English and if they do they simply do not want to help a westerner and are quite rude. (example: the bar staff didn't speak English but had a conversation in English with some other young Chinese men) There is a park and restaurant across the road, restaurant a little $$. Other than that there is nothing really close, everything is a 10 minute walk from hotel. There is an ATM hidden in the foyer which works well. The information desk only has maps and information only in Chinese. The little shop hidden in the back corner has a range of drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) and snacks at a reasonable price.

I was in the hotel twice in 2 weeks. The first time for 4 days with my wife. The second for 3 days alone. The queen bedroom was a little small for the 2 of us. The bed was ok but a little hard. WiFi we didn’t use. Bathroom was good with good water pressure and hot water. Breakfast was also good- plenty of Chinese and western options. We didn’t use the evening restaurant. A nice convenience store in the lobby. There’s a very good western restaurant across the street. In summary I think they were trying to match the Crowne Plaza which is close but have some facilities constraints that will prevent them from reaching that level. Overall nice experience.
