The Twenty First Century Hotel

I was quite stressful at the beginning when I was told to stay in this historical hotel. Until I arrived and checked in, things looked different to me. Its interior design of hotel looked old fashioned, brought me back to the theme of 1980s. Surprisingly facilities were in good shape, maintained well after many years of operation. The guest room was clean, bed and mattress were decent, plenty of in room amenities, snack and drink were supplied. Internal heating system worked right to keep the room warm without a feeling of dehydration. Wifi speed was ok too but the floor lobby looked a bit dark. Breakfast buffet was in good range with traditional Chinese plus western styles like sausages, eggs and toasts etc and tasted ok. Staff at front desk, restaurant and housekeeping were sincere and helpful. Housekeeping staff greeted and smiled at guests proactively. The hotel location was convenient and it was right opposite to the Consulate of Japan. It took about 45 min to the international airport if traffic was not busy. About 15min walk to a street nearby offering different Japanese restaurants, hot pots and body massages etc. When looked back how much it paid per night, it was worth overall.

Read the reviews on trip advisor and was a bit concerned. My stay was actually fine. The hotel is dated and needs an update to carpets and the bathrooms but the room was clean. I left for a few days then came back. Was given a room on a higher floor and it was nicer. Breakfast must have changed as it was very nice. Lots of selection. Good for foreigners. Staff in the restaurant were very friendly. Close to Lucky Street and large mall. Just wish someone at the front desk spoke even a little english. It made some things very hard. Betty

The hotel is cheap (700 rmb) but thats about the only thing it has going for it. Staff are very rude, not helpful and genuinely couldn’t care less. Breakfast offers a limited all Chinese set. Don’t even think about asking for scrambled eggs, since this must be prior approved by the manager. Nobody can or wants to speak English. Guests appear to be considered a nuisance. Rooms are small and stuffy. Bathroom impossibly small and not very clean. I tried it because it’s close to my office. Never again. Best to avoid.
