Century Huatian Hotel Beijing

We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel was in a busy area of Beijing with easy walking to small food stores. A nearby school entertained us in the morning with exercise activities in the yard. Right next to the restaurant was a park - not what we expected but great to see people using it all day! The hotel-style was classic old-style opulence. A lot of marble decor. I think there was an ATM in the hotel reception also? The room was rather large, clean, functional and reasonably modern. The large golden armchair, however, was in dire need of a re-spring as there were no springs in the base to sit on and you had the sensation of almost falling through it! From memory, the TV was easy to operate with possibly only 1 or 2 English speaking channels, including CNN. Wifi was free and in the rooms. The bathroom was Western style with toilet paper provided (!). The included breakfasts were typical smorgasbord style. Very nice with lots of choices especially for vegetarians or vegans (I particularly loved the 'bicolor broccoli'!).

Great location but this hotel is very old and dated. Not enough lifts so you have to wait an eternity to get to your floor after checking in with your tour group. The rooms were on the small side, the arm chair was torn, there were insects in the bathroom, the mattress was so hard and there was only 2 very thin pillows in the room. Breakfast was average too - the ‘juice’ was just fruit cordial and they ran out of so much food. And a huge line for the toaster which took ages to toast 1 single piece of bread. I would never choose to stay here - but we had no choice as it was part of a tour.

This hotel is very old but clean, the services were very good. The room needed a make over and the towels and robes were thread bare and worn. It appeared that the room may have been flooded at one time, becauer base boards were warped and pulled away from the wall.
