The hotel is just exceptional. Then take a rickshaw to stroll through the alleys. Ideally do this during the Sakura season.

They took care of everything - the staff was super friendly, which isn't always the case in bustling Beijing. I will always miss this oddball, fun little hostel. My wifi worked fine, the water pressure was good, my room was always clean. There was usually a rickshaw out front with a decent rate. It's tucked away in a hutong, but that just means more places to stop and eat local food in the morning if you're an early bird like me.

Below is a paraphrased copy of what I sent my credit card company after Hutong had ripped us off so badly: When we arrived at the hotel, we were assigned a horrible room, not as described in the reservation. Leaking sewer pipes overhung two separate twin beds with no window. Further, free breakfast for two was not honored, the hotel charged 32RMB for breakfast. The room type we were assigned was at least 160RMB per night lower then what we were given according to the hotel website . Also, we were told small amenities like free beer would not be honored for each reservation. Lastly, the hotel has glaring maintenance issues, including: 1) A former guest's dirty underwear and socks were left in the nightstand drawer 2) Exposed plumbing, open Chinese drywall spraying white powder, peeling wallpaper, cracks in floors and frames, sewage issues. 3) Customer service is horrendous, and we were refused receipts and documentation.
