Shindom Inn Jianguomen

First off, there's no restaurant that's a part off the hotel anymore, but that part I had expected. We got to our room and were met with a space in dire need of renovation. The color is falling off the walls. The beds are way too hard (for Western standards) and I had to get another blanket and pillows to sleep on top of... On one evening I dropped my shirt on the floor and it became covered in dust. While I could tolerate poorly renovated rooms, it felt as though the space hasn't been properly cleaned for weeks. There were stains on bed linens and towels... Also, forget free WiFi unless you have a Chinese phone number or can find a staff member who speaks English to help you by using their phone... Overall, if you're fine with dirty, neglected rooms, come here, otherwise, I advise you to search elsewhere...

This is my second time to stay in the hotel for a 6-day business trip in October 2011. Their breakfast buffet will satisfy vegetarians like myself. Their standard bedroom has a comfortable bed, and new beddings compared to my visit in 2010. The toilet and bath functioned well (I didn't mind that there was no bath tub), but I was quite disappointed that the bathroom floor wasn't cleaned well this time. The front desk staff could understand basic English, just enough to get a decent response. The hotel is also within comfortable walking distance to the Jianguomen Subway, and has many good restaurants nearby (especially near the Ritan Park area). It's also a treat that it's just a block away from the Silk Market. They also offered free internet connection.
