GreenTree Inn Nanjing Caochangmen Hotel

My Girlfriend and me had planned a trip to Nanjing and booked a room at this hotel. However we were called and informed that they cannot accept the booking because they forgot to update the prices online and asked us to pay them more in order to stay with them. It’s astonishing to know that how can the hotel authorities display a different price on the website and charge us differently. Utter nonsense!

I had to spend three days shouting about the behaviour towards me, and I can only assume that their treatment was deliberate because I did not want a group booking. When I arrived I was put in a room I thought was rather small, with a very small window. It also had a filthy wall next to the bed, with a disgusting stain on it. When I asked at reception whether it was a King Room according to my Hotel Voucher, they refused to tell me. It was only after making loud and repeated complaints that I was moved to another room which eventually they told me was a King Room, which is probably true, although the wardrobe was extremely small, and I had to throw out their clothes hangars that did not even fit. When I checked out, the reception refused to give me a receipt even when a printed instruction to do so was presented to them in Chinese. Only when they had phoned my employers did they finally do so. When I said I wanted a taxi to go to the Bus Station, one of the receptionists laughed in my face, and only stopped when I confronted him. Thankfully he backed down. This was typical of the provocative and contemptuous staff behaviour throughout my stay there.

The receptionist at check-in refused to recognise my Residence Permit, even though it was valid until 1st September 2014. Luckily two representatives from my employers were able to remonstrate on my behalf in Chinese. This was naturally infuriating. I was given no receipt on check-out, even though it had been made clear that I was there for an educational conference, so that will complicate procedures for reimbursement. Given such administrative incompetence, I cannot recommend it any longer as a Business Hotel, despite the comfortable rooms and good bathroom facilities.
