Golden Four Seasons Hotel - Xiamen

We always like to try different lodgings so we made reservations at the Golden Four Seasons. I like to state the pro's and con's. Pro: the area is nice, very local and close to a giant new shopping mall of several floors near the Crown Plaza Paragon (where we stayed before). fashion houses (no customers though), branded boutiques (also emptiness here), supermarket, restaurants and cafes really all very nicely done. Xiamen itself is a very interesting city, new highways and a lot of new constructions all over the city. Con: arriving on Sunday, the chap behind the counter remained seated which we considered extremely rude, did not speak any English or other language (despite all the necessary translation books we always take with us, it was really impossible to communicate) so it took quite a while to find someone we could talk to and point us to our rundown room, not clean, slow WiFi, mattress as hard as a wooden bunk. Very noisy hotel with the constantly honking cars on the parking place. Breakfast included; consisting only of the heavy dinner-like breakfast, which is custom. So we ended up having daily breakfast at the Crown Plaza or Starbucks. Highly irritating we found every morning different business cards of call girls. We have been 4 weeks on the road now, from home which is Curacao to Amsterdam and than Seoul which was wonderful, Hong Kong great hotel and ended up in this poorly maintained hotel. Leaving May 6 for Amsterdam again for a week and than back home. But, with all respect this hotel is totally unsuitable for tourists and therefore not recommendable But the city of Xiamen definitely is worth a visit.
