Gulang Villa Hotel

Family friend helped the last minute booking of this hotel (first choice was booked out due to the public holidays). Hotel provides pick up at the ferry point. Might be busy season, we got told we have too much luggage as there is limited seats on the cart. Also please be aware that they only offer pick up, no drop off (even if you have luggage) to ferry point when you check out! I found this a bit ridiculous! You could also purchase a copy of the map of Gulangyu island for RMB 10. (Another ridiculous point)! Staff aren’t very helpful when asked for information. We stayed in two standard rooms (2 beds). Rooms are very outdated and needed repair at some places. (Please refer to photos). Some areas also needed a detail cleaning! I would definitely recommend that do your researches and book ahead (as early as possible) to get a good price at a good place (wether hotel or Airbnb)!

Stayed here for two nights and were reluctant to leave. Staff were great and the rooms were so clean and stocked everything. We stayed in a suite which meant walking up a lot of stairs although you could take a lift part of they way. They were doing renovations and were very respectful of guests staying there. Breakfast was the usual but lovely and they whisked your dirty dishes away with a smile! Certainly enjoyed our stay there and would love to return.

It is a resort hotel situated at the southern most tip of the island. Although it is about 30 min walk from the main pier where most of the shops, restuarants and tourist spots are located, it is quiet and relaxing. The room we stayed (No. 2204) is spacious with a small balcony and deco seems modern. Free compliementary fruits (pears/apples) are available every morning. One can hear the soothing sound of waves in the evening. The buffet breakfast is also satisfactory with varieties that change every day. The services are particularly good. The staff are all friendly, responsive, hardworking, courteous and even cheerful. Very good training indeed. Something they need to work out though is the swimming pool. It looks good but the water is a bit murky with a bitter taste of disinfectant which is not acceptable. What a waste! Also the internet TV is not easy to use and is often down in the evening when too many people log on the internet. Finally if the beach outside the hotel could be made cleaner it would be perfect. Otherwise the great location would be wasted.
