Wanjia Oriental Hotel - Xiamen

First of all , this hotel is located "out of nowhere". There is not even one convenience store to buy any snacks or drink, the only place to buy a drink is from the fruit stall near by. To be fair, there is two restaurant within 5min of walking distances, other than that there is NOTHING I have been reviewing hotel for ages in very objective manner as possible but for this hotel, I have to rate it "try to avoid". The reason is because the hotel room they gave me has a malfunction toilet, to make it worst, the shower area is flooded too with SH!&#..... I call up the maintenance they say they only will have someone available next morning 8am, and my request of changing the room is turn down, because same room with same rate is full, and I was told to pay RMB 600 to upgrade my room..and I am seriously wont comply to their nonsense request. To be fair in my review, this hotel is also show sign of ages, it comprise of two different wing of hotel, main and satellite, the satellite is just across the courtyard, need not to go out from the compound. The room is overall huge in size, a refurbish should be done in near future, as the wallpaper and furniture show aging sign. However we notice that this hotel publish rate is superbly expensive, judging the hotel, it does not reflect the worthiness of staying in the hotel even the rate is only 1/4 of it publish rate. Too bad, we didn't able to even get into shower as the toilet is malfunction and with all the stool floating in the toilet & shower area flooring, we will duct tape the toilet door if we have a ductape with us. Overall our experience with this hotel is bad, there fore AVOID this hotel , since there is like thousands more hotels in Xiamen. Final advice, AVOID it at all cost

Stayed here for 4 nights and pleasantly surprised with the hotel room's amenities. There is daily fresh supply of towels (small, medium, large), soap, shampoo, dental kits, comb, and tea. There is no complimentary water but they have a dispenser at the lobby. With less than 27 usd per night, the room was already big - around 20 sq.m. and there was free buffet breakfast (Chinese breakfast). Just eat early because they don't replenish the food past 9 am. As for the direction, it wasn't very hard. We took a cab from airport at 12 midnight and the driver hadn't have a hard time (we showed a map from their website as we don't speak chinese). The hotel's name was in Chinese as well. We paid around 70 rmb. Another good thing is that the bus stop is just 5-min walk and there are a lot of shops in the vicinity. Wifi is fast too. The front desk staff were helpful but they don't speak english (they use translation app instead). Everything in Xiamen is in Chinese, so you have to be really good at remembering places, reading maps and body language.

Since I didn't book this hotel myself, I didn't know what to expect. My husband's relatives in Fuzhou booked it for us and told us that it was in the low ¥300. We stayed there for one night. We didn't like the location because it was far from the river and the hotel was sort of tucked in behind the street. It had a really old look too. The room we got was ok, It had 2 big twins and the bathroom was average size. Breakfast was included and it had a variety of food, but mainly Chinese. We enjoyed it though! The other thing we didn't like about this hotel was that as soon as you've entered your room in the evening, someone puts a sexy business card under the door. I guess this is what you'd encounter if the hotel is a 3 star hotel! We like to stay in hotels where the lobbies look big and grand, and this one isn't like that so we wouldn't stay here again and also because of the location.
