Xiamen Golden Bay Resort

Amazing value for both hotel and food, polite and helpful staffs, will definitely come again and would recommend to anyone. Cleanliness 10/10, Hotel environment 10/10, Convenient public transport to Xiamen City such as to SM City Mall, Wanda Shopping Complex, and Xiamen Railway Station, 30 minutes away from Xiamen International Airport via private taxi. Hotel built in conjunction with Xiamen Airlines. The stay was so good that we carried on our stay there for 8 days. Lots of curiosities around Historical Da Deng Island that you may see via a short tour by an electric powered motor vehicle operated by the locals. Comprehension of Mandarin is a major plus. Order Lu Mian in the hotel restaurant; it is best for supper and other local dishes such as Oyster Pancakes, soups and fried rice. Don't book the rooms with no windows as it is located in the basement near the pool. Island is very quiet located away from buzzling Xiamen.

I had the pleasure of staying for ten days at the Golden Bay whilst on business in China. The stay was one of the best that I have experienced in all my travels. The staff are allways there to assist, freindly and helpfull.

We arrived at the hotel very late at night so we immediately went to bed. The room was clean, nice beds...aesthetically, quite nice for the price. Woke up the next morning had a decent complimentary breakfast and the restaurant staff was very kind and helpful. After breakfast we were very excited to walk the grounds a bit and see the pool (as we had not seen it yet, and our main reason for coming here was to have a pool to lay out at) and were incredibly disappointed to see that the pool was green and half full and closed off. And there is pretty much no access to a beach close by. We were supposed to stay three nights but since there isn't much to do on this island aside from pool/beach time, neither of which this hotel had (even though they advertise having both) we decided to leave and were met with some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced while living in China. They decided to up our room rate since we were only staying one night and would not budge or accommodate. Mind you, we were ready to have a relaxing vacation and having to deal with this and finding a new hotel were a hassle we did not want to deal with. They did not understand that we would have preferred to stay for three days at this hotel, had the amenities we came for actually been available (as advertised). They insisted it was our problem and that we must pay the increased amount. They also kept insisting that the pool was not included in the room rate and that they state on their website the pool is only open in summer. Mind you, it is currently 27°C in Xiamen and, as most people do these days, I almost exclusively book on third party sites (Ctrip, agoda, booking, etc). Nowhere on these sites does it say the pool is only open during summer. You can imagine our disappointment and frustration at this situation and as such we do not recommend staying here simply because the customer service was so terrible.
